J-rock North Promotions Inc. (JNP) is
a booking, event planning and promotions company based in Toronto Ontario, Canada. We represent several events and anime conventions across Canada as organizers to Japanese/North American talent, Seiyuu and musical guests. We also assist many
organizations with guest bookings, event organization, staffing and running programming.
We are looking for volunteers who would like to join us on our mission to bringing more of the music content we all love to Canada. If you are dedicated, hard working and would like to help expand events and concerts in Canada then please consider applying for a position!
JNP is a small company, but we work hard while having fun organizing and promoting the things we love. We carefully select new volunteers, and are seeking the most promising, creative, energetic, passionate
and serious applicants.


Q) What if I don’t really have much experience, but still really want to volunteer for JNP?


We are looking for people with expertise and experience as well as those who want a learn. So, if you are a novice who is looking for volunteer experience we can use your help. We still need you to fill out the application though so please read the volunteer criteria thoroughly before applying.

So, before you apply with us, consider the following:


We are looking for serious applicants for volunteer positions. Please review the expectations for each of our positions carefully before applying. We’re looking for team members who are dedicated and want to help us grow. Even though these are voluntary positions, if you join you will be expected to dedicate a
portion of your time on a regular basis. We ask that you are honest about the time you can give and think hard before applying. Think about whether or not this is something you can do for a decent amount of time. If you only want to help for a month or two, or only want to work on specific events, please do not apply for anything other than Events and Promotions Team.
All of our core staff are of
18 years of age or older. In order to maintain a professional environment within our team, we ask that all volunteer position applicants be over the age of 18 as well.
If you are
under the age of 18 you can only apply for the GENERAL VOLUNTEER POSITIONS listed.
You are expected to maintain a professional attitude. We like to have fun and joke around as we work together, but when it comes to our job, we do things professionally. This also includes being courteous to other team members, willing to accept encouraging criticisms, and working together with other staff on projects.

Social media managers manage all of our social media pages so that they are up to date with our content. Other jobs would include looking and finding interesting and/or funny things related to past guests, events and artists, that don’t necessarily merit a post on our site, and post them to our social
media pages. This position will look after our online community, which means starting conversations among our followers and get everyone interacting with each other.
Work time is completely flexible, but agreed upon in advanced before each project. It will be beneficial if you have experience with the following software and applications:

  • Hootsuite
  • Social Pilot
  • Buffer
  • Microsoft Word
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Twitter

We are looking for creative individuals who are adept at creating promotional material such as advertising, concert posters, promotional videos and so on.
Work time is completely flexible, but agreed upon in advanced before each project. It will be beneficial if you have experience with the following software:

  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • Adobe Premier Pro
  • Sony Vegas Pro Corel Draw
  • InDesign
  • Adobe After Effects
  • Final cut Pro
  • Pinnacle Studio (Avid pro)
  • Autodesk

We are also looking for individuals to assist with event photography, photo editing and online gallery management.
Work time is completely flexible, but agreed upon in advanced before each project. It will be beneficial if you have experience with the following software:

  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • Corel Draw
  • Autodesk Sketchbook

As video editor, you will be responsible for editing promotional and comment videos that for YouTube, as well as any other video content that we may do.
Work time is completely flexible, but agreed upon in advanced before each project. It will be beneficial if you have experience with the following software:

  • Avid
  • Adobe Premiere
  • Adobe After Effects
  • Final Cut
  • Sony Vegas Pro

This position is great for individuals who are good at organization and have experience working in sales.
You will be assisting with merchandise sales, merchandise counting and stock organization.
Work time is completely flexible, but agreed upon in advanced before each project. It will be beneficial if you have experience with the following software:

  • Excel
  • Microsoft Word
  • Comfortable with using a tablet
  • Point of Sales (POS)

We are looking for people fluent in Japanese to help us translate Japanese text to English and English text to Japanese. Such text would include social media posts, emails, advertising and any important announcements we need to make.
We are also looking for fluent speakers for our Liaison team. You must be fluent in booth English an Japanese. JLPT LV2 or higher certification is a bonus, but not necessary. You will be interviewed to assess your language skill.

Work time is completely flexible, but agreed upon in advanced before each project. It will be beneficial if you have experience with the following software:

  • Excel
  • Microsoft Word

GENERAL VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Events and Promotions Team

This is a great way for novices and those just looking for a bit of work experience to get involved. We need individuals before and during events for the following:

  • Flier distribution – Handing out fliers during events and before. Assistance with flier placement at establishments.
  • Poster distribution – Putting up posters at events and before. Assistance with poster placement at establishments.
  • Line management – Organizing entry lines, counting attendees and getting people into the venue.
  • Room dressing and decorating –
  • Venue set up and take down –
  • Meals and coffee provider –
  • Ticketing – Taking tickets at the door, and counting attendees

Work time is completely flexible, but agreed upon in advanced before each project.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS


All applicants will need to have a keen eye for following guidelines. You will be working with our team and we are looking for volunteers who are fast learners, able to collaborate with the team, and able to take on the responsibility of representing us.


Q) Can I volunteer remotely? I don’t live near to your events?
A) Yes. As long as you can make it to our events you can volunteer. We are also taking on international applications from people who can work remotely. Work time is completely flexible, but agreed upon in advanced before each project.
Q) Do I need to provide a resume too?
A) If your volunteer application is accepted we will be requesting resume be sent as well if you have one.

Before you submit your application, you should thoroughly proofread it for spelling errors, grammatical errors, or any other errors of any kind (especially if you’re applying for a translation/interpretation or writing position!). Good luck!
